A one-of-a-kind collection of digital artworks, re-imagining the cycles of the natural world in the digital space. Each available as a unique NFT collectible for your metaverse.

In conjunction with the 2021 Spring equinox, ‘The Equinox Collection’ by GRIF will be dropped exclusively on SuperRare.

The collection presents surrealist depictions of familiar objects, scenes, and characters, each in motion. As an invisible catalyst moves through each artwork, – a transfer of natural energy causes the subjects and environments to be pollinated with blooming nature. Each composition is overtaken and consumed, ultimately re-imagined as expansive floral tapestries.

“This concept was born out of wanting to craft something optimistic and beautiful, but also to create concepts and works that can only exist within the medium of 3D” says GRIF. “These expressions of nature could never exist in the natural world, it’s a reinterpretation born only from the digital space.”

Each artwork concludes as a juxtaposition of the subject’s relationship with nature, somewhat ignorant yet still seemingly no match for the godly power nature wields, and is often shy to remind us of. The works questions the motivation of this invisible catalyst, suggesting the omnipresence of a higher energy.

Moreover, as we progress further to a purely digital lifestyle, the works double as a hyper-real reminder of the coexistence of man-made objects and nature, how even the escapism of online life may need to be escaped. The symbolism of flowers elicits feelings of energy, optimism, timelessness, and curiosity

The collection will feature 5 artworks :

The first, Angels Gate’ takes its name from the idyllic outdoor basketball court overlooking the ocean in San Pedro, CA. The introduction of floral growth evolves in the more unexpected, non-organic surfaces in the scene, populating the graphic and geometric lines of the basketball court markings. “The brutalist concrete supporting arch of the backboard acts as a contrasting vessel for the flowers to reach upward to the net,” says GRIF.

The re-imagining of Johannes Vermeers Girl with a Pearl Earring’ the flat oil painting from 1665 becomes dimensionalized in 3D space, as the camera investigates the finer details of the cracking paint and textural tactility. The form of the girl becomes appended with a blooming floral arrangement, representing the passing of time with something that is timeless, nature. On this piece, the artist adds, “expanding the dimensions of these pieces is something only achievable by the medium of 3D animation. Movement is essential to the presentation & concept of this creative expression.

In ‘Great Basin Skate Heaven’, we follow a skater as they perform tricks and stunts in a skaters paradise, located in the Utah Great Basin. “The name ‘Skate Heaven’ is an easter egg derived from the bonus level of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 game,” says GRIF. The idyllic sunset scene bears witness to the transfer of energy between this floral figure and the contrasting concrete environment beneath, saturated in graffiti. “The cinematography of ‘Great Basin Skate Heaven’ is a blend of fish-eye and long lens zooms, paying homage to that of classic skate videos style that’s remained prevalent in the culture since its inception,” notes the artist.

Some of the pieces have been seen by the public already and met with viral success, racking up millions of organic impressions on social media. The Equinox Collection will be available exclusively on SuperRare, released in weekly increments over the late March to April period on SuperRare.
