The global pandemic has given rise to new dynamics in social and professional interactions that we once thought absurd. In only a few months, we have incorporated daily relationships and events that are mediated by screens and devices, and these new uses now feel almost natural. The body has been pushed to a new place of adaptation and sensitivity that has no precedent, and virtual territories have become our second home. We click, socialize, work, move, travel, have flat-surfaced birthdays, LED skin, a true metaverse holiday.

In this context, I’m beginning to wonder what happens to our perception of the body in the digital sphere as well as our representation of it. Since the Lascaux Caves 17,000 years ago, we have graphed the human body throughout art history with new media and ideas bringing forward a myriad of questions and dilemmas that seem very inherent and relevant to our daily lives. Our representational tools become more and more complex and with them, body and spatial relationships become more intricate and fascinating to navigate.

This exhibition is a curatorial experiment. It brings together 18 artists that work with digital bodies and territories as either topic or subject matter in digital media and cryptoart in order to help us think and feel how the hardcoded lines between our physical bodies and these new cyber realities are becoming more and more blurred. In this new world of virtual spaces and remote emotions, where do we stand in relation to this novel corporality?

Frenetik Void

As digital technologies change the definition of what it means to be human, the relationship between physical presence, virtual identity and digital corporeality becomes more diffuse. The work of Frenetik Void unfolds in a science-fiction environment, a post-human universe inhabited by mutating beings, hybrids in which limits are vanished. The suspended bodies in liquid natures build scenes of surrealistic airs.

Space distorts as human beings try to find a place to inhabit. The perception of geometry that surrounds it, is constantly building or deconstructing a different reality, where we are all trying to create our sense of place. Graphics, nature-inspired textures and futuristic worlds feature the work of Victoria Campobello; alias VXN. Abstract shapes of amorphous forms coexist in highly textured images that seem to blend into a three dimensional space.
