An Interview With Kaysha by Eloenora Brizi

It is June here in Italy and we are still in our homes, trying to understand how to deal with the “new normal”.

I am on a hill, close to the lake and the sea.

And today I have the big pleasure of calling “the mountains”.

THE MOM
Edition 1 of 1
the Mom is very important in life. Having a mother is very important because we invent many songs together and in the evening she kisses me goodnight. I recommend that you love your mommy forever.

Kaysha, an artist duo of 9 and 5 years old sisters, is the combination of their names.

Kaylee, from celtic: the keys holder; and Shadi: from hindi and arabic: union and person with beautiful singing.

The art of Kaysha is curious and sparkling. The themes of their body of works are limitless, like them, able to reach anything passing through their minds, regardless.

They find inspiration in reading books, watching documentaries and living their life immersed in nature.

Kaysha’s art making process is multifaceted, with the two artists always exploring new techniques that combine physical and digital, including VR. Usually starting from drawings, colored with oil pastels and markers, the figure will then be cut and captured on the computer to start its journey into becoming a digital animation. For this second part, the role of Kaysha is more that of the artistic directors: their parents would help them animating the piece, based on their desires for the result.

Whales Melody
Edition 1 of 1
“A long time ago, whales used to be killed for whale oil. Today, there are still places where they get killed for meat. We should save this species, otherwise it won’t be possible to hear their melodies in the oceans anymore and without that singing, the world would become sad”. Kaysha’s art piece “Whales” is a statement to preserve beauty in the oceans, but even more in the world. Beauty, at its highest manifestation, in its goodness and its reason to exist. Eleonora Brizi

A long time ago, whales used to be killed for whale oil, which was used as a cheap illuminant for cities. After the invention of light bulbs, this habit stopped.

But in the world, today, there are still places where they get killed for meat. Ecologists are trying to save this species, otherwise it won’t be possible to hear their melodies in the oceans anymore and without that singing, the world would become sad”.

Whales Melody is forcing us to acknowledge the presence of different worlds, as the one under water, that we only consider for our ground purposes. In this way, Kaysha’s art piece is a statement to preserve beauty in the oceans, but even more in the world. Beauty, at its highest manifestation, in its goodness and its reason to exist.

I bet you have never thought before of how empty we would all be without these melodies that are accompanying us through our journey, without ever asking for permission nor gratitude.
